Craft Circle
The Craft in America Center is launching a recurring Craft Circle gathering. This is a time to work on a smallish, hand-held project in community with others. Sessions will begin with a prompt as a jumping off point to inform the conversation and making, plus we will offer a curated selection of craft-art books and periodicals for inspiration.

This annual fundraiser offers a curated selection of global textiles, jewelry, baskets, clothing from Guatemala, India, Japan and so much more. Proceeds from the sale support the Fowler’s textile acquisitions, exhibitions, and publications.
Wearing It On Our Sleeves: Darlyn Susan Yee
Darlyn Susan Yee is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice weaves together traditional and unexpected materials into complex designs that engage a dialogue between art, design and craft. Her meticulous, labor-intensive processes result in fiber-based sculptures and site-specific installations. She engages a dialogue that crosses cultural understandings of identity, gender and place. Complex but with a sense of whimsy, Darlyn's explorations of presence and containment encompass largeinstallations to small handheld vessels.
Join Darlyn as she unveils the newest fiber-based artwork in her series “Wearing It On Our Sleeves”. She’ll discuss her motivations and techniques used to create the outsized sweaters currently on display in the Social Justice Center at El Camino College.
Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living
Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living is the sixth iteration of the Hammer’s biennial exhibition highlighting the practices of artists working throughout the greater Los Angeles area. These practices embrace the value of craft, materiality, performance, and collectivity. The biennial situates art as an expanded field of culture that is entangled with everyday life; community networks; queer affect; and indigenous and diasporic histories.
Fiber Maker's Circle at LACMA
Calling all fiber aficionados! Maker's circles are a fabulous way to connect with others who share your stitching passion. Bring your knit, crochet, embroidery, or hand-sewing project, or create with materials from LACMA’s fiber stash.
The circle is hosted by Andell Family Sundays, and is free for all ages and open to all skill levels.
Quilt Share Live!
Time to dig out your quilted heirlooms and head to the Craft in America Center for our own spin on Antiques Roadshow!
Quilt experts, artist Joe Cunningham and curator Julie Silber, will lead an on-the-spot analysis of audience members’ quilts made before 1960. Cunningham and Silber will give as much information about each quilt as can be gleaned including, date, region, pattern name, condition and more. They will also present a selection of antique quilts and a few of Cunningham’s own creations.
