Please join Material Encounters for a lovely day under the orange trees as we share an informal talk and book signing with the extraordinary Susan Unger.
Susan will share tales of her creative process and her life on Menorca. The book is an absolute visual treat and not to be missed.
You are welcome to bring mending or craft work that can be done in your lap. Our hostess Liberty will share found and foraged craft supplies and we can indulge in a slow Sunday together, enjoying each other’s company and the creative force of Susan Unger.
About the book:
Susan Unger, a visionary textile artist who has lived and worked on Menorca for more than 50 years, brings together here collected pieces from her archive, forming an exquisite visual tapestry of textiles, clothing, and the landscapes that inspired them.
Her art comes from observing nature. Over the years, she has developed a slow, artisanal approach to fashion, deeply influenced by Wabi-Sabi philosophy, Mediterranean simplicity, and an intuitive approach to craft. Her clothing is designed to be worn, loved, repaired, and worn some more.
Both a retrospective and a personal narrative, the book weaves together the stories, inspirations, and meticulous techniques behind her creations. Let this visually rich quilt of art and couture awaken your soul.
