Gee’s Bend Quilting Experiences

  • Quilting for Community 21706-21710 Devonshire St. Chatsworth, CA 91311 (map)

Three separate one-day, in-person quilting experiences led by Mary Ann Pettway and China Pettway of the Gee’s Bend Quilting Collective.

You spend the day sewing in shared space with the artists. This is not a step-by-step class. You work at your own pace, observe their approach, ask questions, and receive individual guidance as you sew. Most importantly, you experience the music sung from their souls. This is a rare and unique experience!

In the spirit of their ancestors, Mary Ann and China lead with storytelling, song, and a quilting practice passed through generations in Gee’s Bend. You will be immersed in a tradition shaped by endurance, community, and a bend in the Alabama River. Bring something you'd like to work on and receive guidance along the way.

Bring your machine or rent one of ours for $30. Machines are limited.

Schedule:
Friday May 1, Saturday May 2, or Sunday May 3, 10am - 4pm
