The Alchemy of Color: A Textile Arts LA Series of Workshops
Textile Arts|LA is collaborating with Craft Contemporary to bring you a series of Surface Design Workshops this summer.
In a three-part series, learn to create pattern and texture through the processes of discharge dyeing, ice dyeing and direct hand applications. Mark-making in surface design allows artists and designers to express their creativity, create unique visual narratives, and infuse surfaces with character, texture, and meaning.
The Alchemy of Color: Shibori Discharge Dyeing
Artist and designer Liz Oliver will guide you through the intricate art of shibori discharge dyeing. Learn to create intricate patterns by binding and clamping fabric before applying discharge paste and dyes. Uncover the magic as you remove the resists to reveal striking negative spaces and designs.
Sculptural Basketry: Three-Part Workshop Series
Textile Arts LA is collaborating with Craft Contemporary to bring you a series of Basketry Workshops this fall. Join us for an exhilarating and innovative workshop series that transcends the traditional boundaries of basketry, leading you into the enchanting world of sculptural art. Over the course of three immersive sessions, you'll be guided by acclaimed fiber artists Polly Giacchina, Julie Kornblum, and Elise Vazelakis as you delve into the artistry of coiling, twining, and knotless netting. Workshops can be taken individually or as part of a series. All materials are included in the fee.

Michael's tour date has been set! We’re sorry we couldn’t do a photo shoot at the Louvre to announce the new dates (if you’re hip to current events you’ll get that reference). Our behind-the-scenes tours are free to members and are a benefit to joining the organization. Non-members pay an administrative fee (aka fund the coffee and pastries). Michael's studio is in the Westlake Village / Thousand Oaks area.
DESERT CHURROS ROVINGS RANCH TOUR
Katherine Tucker of Desert Churros Roving Ranch has invited Textile Arts LA members to visit her working ranch on April 7! Noon to 2 pm ish or later. We will be served lunch, then spend time discussing the natural dyeing process and exploring her finished yarns.
