Encaustic Wax Image Transfer Workshop with Michelle Robinson Saturday, April 27, 2024, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Join Textile Arts LA and artist Michelle Robinson at Craft Contemporary for an immersive workshop where you will delve into the art of encaustic photo transfers. Discover the various techniques for preparing and printing images, and explore the intricacies of transferring them onto different surfaces such as wood, paper, and fabric. Elevate your creations by incorporating pigment sticks or pan-pastels. By the end, you'll gain insights into mounting, storing, and maintaining your exquisite finished pieces. Throughout the session, Michelle will cover essential equipment and safety measures for working with encaustic wax.


Supplies and tools provided: ● Encaustic wax medium, both clear and white ● Brushes ● Pigment sticks, powdered graphite, and pan pastels to play with ● Gloves ● Tracing paper, muslin, and cheesecloth substrates ● Scrapers and carving tools


Participants must bring: ● A selection of laser prints or photo copies of images that are meaningful to you (laser works bestdye-based inkjet prints will not work). Before the workshop, you will receive a few additional instructions on how to prep the prints. ● A smock, apron, or old clothes you don’t mind getting wax on. Additional optional materials the participants can bring: ● Cradled, unprimed birch wood panels (similar to these: https://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-studio-wood-panels/) 8x10” or smaller ● Various kinds of papers or fabrics you might like to try as a substrate
