Image transfers are a fun and compelling way to create one-of-a-kind images and mixed media pieces from your photography. Using encaustic wax as the transfer medium, you will learn how to quickly make transfers on a variety of surfaces and explore ways of enhancing your work with other media.
Materials provided:
Encaustic wax medium, both clear and white
Brushes
Pigment sticks, powdered graphite, and pan pastels to play with
Gloves
Tracing paper, muslin, and cheesecloth substrates
Scrapers and carving tools
Materials to bring:
A selection of laser prints or photo copies of images that are meaningful to you (laser works best… dye-based ink jet prints will not work). Before the workshop, you will receive a few additional instructions on how to prep the prints.
A smock, apron, or old clothes you don’t mind getting wax on.
Additional optional materials the participants can bring:
Cradled, unprimed birch wood panels (similar to these:
