EVOLVE: A Surface Design Series of Workshops

We are collaborating with Craft Contemporary to bring you a series of Surface Design Workshops this summer. Evolve is a three-part series of surface design workshops that explore dyeing, printing, and embellishing cloth. Each session provides in-depth and hands-on learning that builds on the previous sessions as participants create multilayered works of color and composition. Workshops can be taken individually or as part of a series. All materials are included in the fee.

June 17-Artist, Fashion, and Textile Designer Simone Evans leads the first Dyeing Workshop. Simone will guide participants through the basics of dyeing, using direct dyeing applications and simple resist methods with commercial fiber-reactive dyes on cotton and linen cloth.

July 22-Artist, Educator, and Director of TextileArts|LA Carrie Burckle leads the Printing Workshop. Carrie will guide participants in the use of block and screen printing to create movement and composition on the previously dyed cloth from Simone’s workshop. If you signed up for just this printing workshop, the pre-dyed cloth will be available to you for printing.

August 19-Artist, Educator, Fashion, and Textile Designer Beth Abaravich leads the Embellishing Workshop. Beth will guide participants to combine embroidery with beading and sequins to create rich embellished surfaces on dyed and printed cloth from the previous dyeing and printing workshops. If you signed up for just this embellishing workshop, pre-dyed and printed cloth will be available to you for embellishing.

All of the Workshops are purchased through Craft Contemporary. Discounted tickets are available if you are a member of TextileArts|LA or Craft Contemporary.

Members’ price per workshop is $125.00, non-members’ $135.00

Or if you prefer you can purchase the entire series for members for $325.00, non-members for $355.00 (that’s a savings of $50.00)
