Fast Fashion/Slow Art Exhibition

Upcoming exhibition at George Washington University features eleven films, videos and video installations by a diverse group of emerging and established contemporary artists. Fast Fashion/Slow Art encourages the scrutiny of today’s garment industry, inviting a conversation about the production and distribution of clothing and textiles in the globalized world. The exhibition addresses the merits of local made versus mass production, commenting on workers’ rights and safe working conditions, and how design/technology can offer sustainable solutions.

Organized by Bowdoin College Museum of Art in cooperation with the George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design and the George Washington University Museum/Textile Museum.

Curated by Bibiana Obler, associate professor of art history, George Washington University, and Phyllis Rosenzweig, curator emerita, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Fast Fashion/Slow Art will be on view at GW University Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, Washington, D.C. from August 8 through December 25, 2019. It will travel to Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine from January 30 through August 2, 2020.
