Christina Forrer: Grappling Hold at the Swiss Institute

Grappling Hold featured Christina Forrer’s tapestries on view at the Swiss Institute in NYC. This was the Swiss artist’s first institutional solo exhibition, and created several newly commissioned works for the exhibition. Forrer’s textiles pay homage to the work of German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, especially the tapestries he made in collaboration with Swiss artist Lise Gujer.

Many of Forrer’s tapestries depict scenes with wide-eyed figures, woven to appear tugged and wrenched by the structure of the weave itself.

This exhibition was on view from March 28 through April 23rd. Full press release, images of the exhibition and work can be found here.
