Kimono Refashioned at the Asian Art Museum
Featuring over 35 garments from the Kyoto Costume Institute, Kimono Refashioned shows how the kimono continues to be a source of ideas for contemporary designers. Japanese avant-garde designers changed Paris haute couture in the early 1980s with their minimalist and deconstructed clothing. Kimono Refashioned shares evidence that the kimono has inspired designers for over 150 years.
The exhibition opens at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco on February 8. Includes work by Paul Poiret, Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, Iris van Herpen, among others.
