Contemporary Muslim Fashions at the de Young Museum

Contemporary Muslim Fashions at the de Young Museum opens on September 22, 2018 through January 6, 2019. This is the first major museum to explore the complex and diverse nature of Muslim dress codes worldwide. Highlighting garments and styles from various places, this exhibition considers how Muslims define themselves (and are in turn defined) by their dress. The range of work on view includes high-end fashions (such as those by Malaysia-based Blancheur), street wear from Sara Elenany, spotswear (such as the burkini), and commissioned garments from emerging and established designers.
