The 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati is featuring Dress Up, Speak Up: Regalia and Resistance, an exhibition on view through July 2020 that can be visited virtually.

This exhibition illuminates the complexity of contemporary identity through dress, and the many ways of how one can represent the self. Work references Englightenment-era European garments, the traditional coverings of ancient religions, and gender-bending bling of popular culture. Artists include Ebony G. Patterson, Jeffrey Gibson, Nick Cave, Fahamu Pecou, among others.

Check out the Hyperallergic review by Sarah Rose Sharp, who was able to visit the exhibition in person before it closed to the public and has some insight into the exhibition.

Individual works in this exhibition can be viewed on the 21c website, along with the exhibition’s didactic by curator Alice Gray Stites, the Museum Director and Chief Curator.
