Join us for our SPRING TEXTILE SLAM!

Join us for our Spring 2025 Textile Slam! Artists, designers, authors, curators, and students will share quick insights into their work, process, and intentions. Slam! is an informal, community-oriented opportunity to be impressed or intrigued, to see something new or to celebrate the work of familiar friends. The Spring SLAM’s broad theme is FASHION featuring photographer and author Mimi Haddon, artist and fashion designer Meredith Strauss, Elle Litiatco Walters, Upcycled Designer for ELLERALI, author, curator, and fashion historian Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell, and Otis Fashion Design students. Kimberly will discuss and read from her latest book, Skirts. Mai Tae Preece (student) will present her work from the Otis Mentor Project in collaboration with Revolve Clothing. Her project focused on patchwork Shibori, which she meticulously hand-dyed. Ethan Prins (student) will share his experience with the LACMA collaboration mentor project. Each student was paired with a piece from the museum’s collection to create both a runway garment and a corresponding merchandise item for the gift shop. Erin Bond (student) also participated in the LACMA collaboration, exploring techniques in printing and reverse appliqué. The students will showcase their design processes, reflecting on their experiences working with professional designers while studying at Otis. Their presentations will include a PowerPoint, as well as physical samples that document their creative journey.

The SLAM will take place at Wonzimer Gallery in their lounge on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, from 3-5 pm. We’ll serve small bites and beverages.
