ARTIST STATEMENT
Beth is interested in the tiny bits of information imbedded in clothing and the domestic. Deep inside the materials of our everyday life are codes which can be refigured to create new meaning. An example would be loopy knitting. It could be read as carpet, grass, or even chest hair. Color and materiality question class, social structure, and gentrification. Fashion is sculpture, design, commodity, history, status symbol, a.k.a. the perfect foil.

BIO
Originally from Kansas City, Beth has lived in Los Angeles for the past 30 years. Along with horses, drawing and painting were an escape from small town life. She has two bachelor’s: One in fashion design from Otis College of Art and Design and one in fine art from the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her MFA in art from Art Center College of Design in 2018. Currently Ms. Abaravich teaches in the fashion design program at Otis College of Art and Design and Woodbury University. After taking a silk painting workshop in the 2010, she became interested in the artistic potential of fashion and its many processes. She has exhibited her work in many group shows and last August had a solo show at Keystone Art Space titled “Hopeful Time Capsule”. She is also the recipient of the Not Real Art Artist Grant in 2019.
