This fall, The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum presents the exhibition "Weaving an Empire: Textiles of the Inka World," the museum’s first major exhibition solely focused on pre-Hispanic South American Indigenous art since 2005.

The exhibition explores the ways the design of Andean dress and other textiles in the 15th and 16th century reflected the influence of the Inka on the diverse communities they ruled over and the ways they used textiles to express their power and to govern.

In this online webinar, curator Shelley Burian will present an overview of the textiles on view and discuss how each is a reflection of the Andean world in the time of the Inka.
