a poco art presents small gods: Desire, Devotion, and the Making of Power, a group show featuring: Trevor Coopersmith, Debra Disman, Nancy Evans, Lenny Gerard, Heng Yi, Tom Knechtel, Jenn Lima, Sandeep Mukherjee, Renee Pepion, Stephanie Shih, and Julie Yeo.
"What makes a god? What makes a demon? Is it divinity itself, or our desire to believe in something greater than ourselves? Opening on Halloween, small gods brings together eleven artists whose works inhabit the shifting boundaries between the sacred and the profane, desire and devotion, innocence and monstrosity. Drawing on Buddhist thought, feminist perspectives, and popular mythology, the exhibition explores how we create, worship, fear, and occasionally become our own gods."
