In this Bandana Screen printing workshop with Carrie Burckle, learn how to screen print on cotton bandanas using simple cut out stencils and textile inks.
The morning will be spent designing and cutting out several stencils and mixing textile inks, followed by demonstrations.
You can expect to be delighted and surprised by your printing efforts. Carrie encourages a playful attitude, experimentation and over layering of prints to create rich surfaces.
No prior experience necessary, however *participants must be able to use an xacto knife to cut out a shape on acetate, pull a squeegee by hand and stand for several hours while printing.
Materials provided: 4 bandanas, small handheld screens, inks, transparent extender base, squeegees/spreaders, acetate, xacto knives, cutting mats, rulers, masking tape, Tpins, padded and covered tables, and several small lengths of cotton muslin.
You are encouraged to bring your own pre-laundered light-colored natural fiber fabrics and/or clothing as well. It is possible to upcycle clothing by printing over stains etc. Please note that you will be sharing a table with someone else and therefore fabrics will be cut and arranged according to the table space.
Participants should bring: apron, comfortable shoes, disposable gloves, a roll of paper towels, a folder or newspaper to carry their stencils home, sketch book, pencil, sharpie marker, water and snacks.
