California Fibers: The Languages of Fiber invites viewers to consider fiber as a form of communication—one that speaks through structure, material, and process.
Many of the works on view transform familiar techniques in unexpected ways. Traditional processes are reinterpreted through contemporary perspectives, creating forms that move between the architectural and the organic, the systematic and the intuitive. Some artists disrupt established textile structures, investigating tension, absence, and transformation. Others draw upon inherited techniques and cultural histories, using fiber as a vehicle for recording their memories and experiences. Throughout the exhibition, materials serve as carriers of meaning, and the process itself becomes a form of communication.
