Textile Arts Los Angeles and Ruth Katzenstein Souza aka Mending as Metaphor, are once again partnering to offer a program for mindful visible mending.
We will gather at Ruth’s studio and explore the concept of #MendMarch, developed by Kate Sekules of #VisibleMend. Guided by a set of provided cues, we will meet the first and the last Sunday of March.
Students should be prepared to dive deep into their imaginations and their mending pile. This will be a fun exploration, for some a beginning of a mending practice and for others a further step along the journey. Students can decide if they want to work on many different garments, or focus on one piece.
The idea is to stitch a little every day and be spontaneous, allowing the hand to guide the way. In both three-hour sessions we will explore mending techniques, approaches to transforming garments, piecing, patching and discovering what your own practice of slow stitching looks like. Between the sessions there will be prompts from the cue cards to incorporate the practice of mending into your daily life. When we meet up again, we’ll be sharing what we’ve worked on.
Mending creates community and hope. We hope you can join us.
Class limited to 11 students.
