๐ผ ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฉ๐๐ & ๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ข๐, at Cal State Northridge, brings together thirteen Los Angelesโbased artists whose textile practices explore technology, fashion, and collective histories. Rooted in LAโs long legacy of textile productionโindustrial and artistic alikeโthe works reflect how cloth can carry deeply personal stories while revealing broader economic, social, and historical forces.
Across the exhibition, technology appears through interlocking threads that echo pixels, binaries, and screens; through patterns shared via social media and community networks; and through reminders that what we call โtraditionalโ processes were once powerful, coveted technologies shaped by colonial extraction and global trade.
Several artists confront consumerism, trade, and environmental impact using fashion industry waste, while others center clothing and textiles as markers of identity, memory, and community. Though varied in form, all of the works act as disruptionsโglitchesโcreated when stitches are pulled, fabrics layered, and structures altered. These material and psychological shifts open spaces of possibility, transforming glitches into reservoirs of memory and knowledge that challenge dominant narratives.
