Virtual Video Tour + Photos of Boro Textiles: Sustainable Aesthetics at Japan Society

The Japan Society’s current exhibition, Boro Textiles: Sustainable Aesthetics, features boro textiles hand-pieced by Japanese peasants in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This is the first U.S. exhibition that has assembled over 50 archival pieces from folklorist and cultural anthropologist, Chuzaburo Tanaka (1933-2013). These are presented alongside new portraits by Kyoichi Tsuzuki; work by avant-garde fashion designers Rei Kawakubu, Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto; and textile-based works by Susan Cianciolo and Christina Kim.

While the museum is closed to the public, they have assembled a five-part series on the exhibition, available to view on their website, along with photos of selected works in the exhibition.
