Phenomenal Nature: Mrinalini Mukherjee at the Met Breuer

This retrospective of sculptor Mrinalini Mukherjee will be on view at The Met Breuer from June 4 - September 29, 2019. This is the first comprehensive display of the artist’s work in the U.S., featuring fifty-seven works and exploring the artist’s longstanding engagement with fiber and forays into ceramic and bronze.

Mukherjee studied painting, printmaking and mural making M.S. University in Baroda, India, with the influential artist K.G. Subramanyan. She worked intuitively and explored the divide between figuration and abstraction. Nature was her primary inspiration, with further influence from historic Indian sculpture, modern design, and local crafts and textile traditions.
