Suzanne Bocanegra and Fabric Workshop and Museum collaboration
Suzanne Bocanegra’s Poorly Watched Girls explores the way popular entertainment portrays women in trouble - with regard to spiritual trouble, emotional trouble, and romantic trouble. Work on view includes a large-scale installation and performance, drawing inspiration from the opera, film, and ballet. Playing with the boundary between the black box of a theater and the white box of a gallery, Bocanegra blends elements from the performing and visual arts. Textile, collage, performance, staging and video all merge together for this culmination of her artist-in-residency at the Fabric Workshop and Museum.
