In this immersive four-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of surface design using clay and stencils. Create your own custom stencils and explore a variety of precut commercial options to develop unique, personal motifs. You’ll also experiment with brushes and sponges to apply the clay in expressive ways. Watch the transformation as the clay resists the dye, revealing striking patterns in deep indigo hues.

Theresa Robinett’s many years of practicing fiber arts have literally followed thread from knitting, to hand spinning, to weaving, to various surface design techniques including dyeing with plant dyes and ultimately growing her own dye stuff. Though it was not until she was in a graduate design program that it became clear that this area of design was where she needed to focus. Her current work includes block printing on fabrics and use of plant dyes. Theresa has a long term interest in indigo and resist dyeing along with the wonderful serendipity that occurs when cloth is dipped into the vat.
