During the Mingei International Musem renovations in San Diego, they will have an exhibition of 50 American quilts from the collection to be on view at CECUT (Centro Cultural Tijuana). American Quilts will open on August 17, 2018 through November 4, 2018.
Many of the quilts date from 1850 to mid-twentieth century, ranging in colors, stitching techniques, and fabric choices. The quilts are from different parts of the U.S., from California to Texas to Illinois and Ohio, to Virginia and Louisiana. A variety of patterns include Schoolhouse, Shoo Fly, Rocky Road to Kansas, and Log Cabin variations.
American Quilts was curated by Mingei International Museum's Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Christine Knoke Hietbrink. More information can be found here.
