Students will engage in the language of pattern design by applying a hand carved block, using water based textile inks on fabric. Design principles of positive and negative space will be explored, as will the dynamics of color, the contour of shape, the relationship between repeats, questions of directionality, and movement. Finished cotton blanks will be supplied to be used as scarves, table runners or wall hangings. Artist Carrie Burckle has taught textile printing for more than 15 years at CSULB.
Class is $125 plus $25 materials fee; $110 + $25 for members of Textile Arts LA.
There will be time for design ideation on paper, carving a block, learning about pattern repeats, and printing a finished product.
Water, coffee, and light snacks will be provided. Please bring your own bag lunch.
Street parking available: meters and a lot. Carrie's studio is around the corner from ICA/LA, fyi!
