San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles Call for Fiber Artists
San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (CA), Call for Fiber Artists, Know Your Meme: Stitching Viral Phenomena
Deadline: July 22nd, 2019
Know Your Meme and San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (SJMQT) are pleased to present the call for art, Know Your Meme: Stitching Viral Phenomena. The exhibition, which will be on view at SJMQT from October 20th, 2019 – January 12th, 2020, explores the concept of the meme as a poignant method to summarize, understand, and critique important societal issues and current events. In true meme fashion, the artwork selection will be driven by the power of the people and curated by the online community.
All artworks must depict, relate to, or reference a meme through a textile method such as quilting, embroidery, cross- stitching, knitting and crocheting, weaving, basketry, etc.
Requirements: Entries must be original work completed after 2016. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Collaborative work will be considered as a single entry. Artists submitting both collaborative and individual works must apply separately. Work must not exceed 6 feet in any single dimension and not more than 100 lbs. All work must be either fiber in content or executed in a textile technique.
Submission to Know Your Meme: Stitching Viral Phenomena implies acceptance of the following conditions: Accepted work must be completely ready for installation including any essential display hardware, rods, or stands. Accepted artwork must be available for the entire duration of the exhibition. If accepted work is sold prior to the exhibition, the artist must notify SJMQT and make arrangements with the new owner to have the work available for the duration of the exhibition. Work other than that submitted and chosen by the jury may not be substituted. The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles retains the right to reproduce and distribute the images to print and electronic media for publicity, documentation, and educational purposes.
