Elise Vazelakis' earliest inroads to creativity began with fiber, beginning with her grandmother’s treadle sewing machine. With her current work, she feels she has gone back to her roots working with a foot operated weaving loom. Although her process is conventional, loom weaving, her techniques are inventive pushing the limits of the fiber by integrating metal wire and paint elements. Her current work explores the contrast between two components known for their fortitude and fragility. The result is a complex fabric that balance between textile and sculpture producing unusual patterns and texture that is unpredictable.
