Artist, Educator, Fashion, and Textile Designer Beth Abaravich leads the Silk Painting Workshop. Beth will guide participants to learn how to stretch silk on a frame, apply wax with a variety of different tools, and paint with silk dyes. The result will be two 20”x 20” silk scarves that showcase the expressive qualities of Batik. Resources and instruction guide included.

Textile Artist Tifanie White leads the Marbling on Silk Workshop. Tifinie will lead with an introduction on the preparation of the materials, as well as a demonstration and discussion of the historical and contemporary techniques and tools used in Marbling. There will be time to play and create. Participants will celebrate fluid flow, the release of control (as a creative strategy), and the beauty of surprises as we rotate amongst stations arranged with varying tools, designs, silks, and trays. Not only is marbling a delightful combination of chemistry, art, and motion but it’s also incredibly soothing, mesmerizing, and joyful to do. Resources and instruction guide included.

Artist, Educator, and Director of TextileArts|LA Carrie Burckle leads the Silk Shibori Workshop. Cloth is manipulated by folding, binding, and stitching to achieve unique geometric and organic patterns. Carrie will guide you in the exploration of the effect of acid dyes in combination with shibori methods. Participants will create multi-layered and dimensional designs on various silk substrates and two silk scarves. Instructions are provided.
