Silk Painting with Beth Abaravich

  • Beatnik Lounge 61597 29 Palms Highway Joshua Tree, CA, 92252 United States (map)

Guided by TALA member Beth Abaravich, students will create one-of-a-kind art on silk scarves using aqua-based resist and silk acid dyes. Have fun exploring design while creating a unique accessory that you can wear or give to someone special!

Using dye and resist, we will explore the many design possibilities of this medium.  You can develop a layout on paper and place it under the silk to trace or work freehand. Either way, research of technique and imagery is encouraged. After practicing drawing with the resist, you will apply the design to the scarf, then fill in the shapes with dye. The scarves will be permanently set in class using jacquard dyeset, so participants will be able to enjoy their work as soon as it dries.

Light refreshments will be served. All materials will be provided.
