Come learn about patchwork and visible mending techniques using vintage Japanese textiles provided by BORO BORO! This workshop will provide a brief intro to the history of Japanese mending and various stitching styles and techniques used for visible mending using real antique textiles as examples. You will then each complete a sampler of the most common hand stitching techniques used in mending, which you will be able to take home and use as a reference. The last portion of the workshop will be a block of time for students to work on patching, mending, or stitching their own items from home with a variety of vintage Japanese fabric scraps provided by us. All students will go home with a kit of sewing supplies and indigo patches to take home with them to continue on their mending journey!
The workshop will be hosted at Nellita's Craft, a neighborhood craft shop and makerspace in Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. We're thrilled to have the chance to collaborate with another likeminded AAPI female owned business, and in such a great location!
