This online course taught by Sara Temme is designed especially for textile enthusiasts, makers, collectors, armchair historians, museum lovers, and anyone who has ever wondered why textiles seem to tell us so much about the people who make them and use them.
Over the course of ten modules (or, lessons), we’ll look at textiles through a range of anthropological lenses.
Each module will include a substantial written post outlining the lecture and ideas presented in the module, a video recorded lecture with slides, a selection of suggested readings, and questions and prompts to help you think more deeply about the material.
The pace is intentionally slow. One module a month gives you time to actually sit with the ideas, do the readings if you want to, process the ideas I present in the module, and participate in the discussions without feeling like you’re trying to complete another online course in your already-too-busy life.
Think of it less as a class you have to “finish” and more as a year-long opportunity to develop a new way of seeing.
