Last year a small group of us enjoyed a special opportunity to learn and create under the guidance of Ferne Jacobs, one of our country's most renowned artists working in basketry techniques.
This workshop will focus on the traditional technique of coiling. We will explore creating two and three dimensional shapes, discussing its near-universal appearance in early civilizations through today. Beyond focusing solely on the practical steps, this workshop will encourage individual expression and discussions about creativity and inspiration.
Ferne Jacobs' work is in the collections of the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and others. She has lectured and taught widely throughout the United States and has a particular interest in helping students to not only learn the techniques involved, but also to identify and explore their own creative interests.
Fee $150, members and non-members.
Class will be held in Ferne’s Silver Lake home-studio. Address will be sent to all registered students.
