Visit a Traditional Workshop in France Virtually - BTS at the Getty

Go behind the scenes at the Royal Tapestry Manufactory at the Gobelins in Paris! The Iris (The Getty’s blog) posted a video on this traditional tapestry workshop last December. Reaching new heights in France in the 17th Century, the Royal Tapestry Manufactory still exists. The tradition of tapestry weaving lives on, even in the making of contemporary art, through knowledge and creative inspiration handed down at this site.

The video features several weavers, and explains the overall process of weaving at the Gobelins workshop. From the footage of custom-dyed threads to warping tapestry looms, it is such a treat to peek at how the history of tapestry is carried forward in the present.
