Maren Hassinger at Art + Practice

Maren Hassinger's solo exhibition, The Spirit of Things, at Art + Practice spans over four decades of her career in performance, sculpture, and video. This exhibition will be on view through May 26th.

Hassinger explores relationships between industrial and natural worlds through a practice that is meditative and critical. The Spirit of Things features various methods and materials, including: wire rope, newspapers, plastic bags, and other non-traditional materials. Hassinger transforms these materials into "evocations of the beauty found in conditions often dismissed as blighted or marginal." Hassinger's work often addresses race, gender, and other aspects of identity, and in The Spirit of Things, this is especially seen through interviews with her family members.

Maren Hassinger: The Spirit of Things is co-presented by The Baltimore Museum of Art and Art + Practice in Los Angeles. More info about the exhibition and Maren Hassinger can be found here.
