Buthina Abu Milhem: A Lamentation of Threads and Pins

A Lamentation of Threads and Pins was recently on view at the Umm el-Fahem Art Gallery in Israel, a solo exhibition of work by Buthina Abu Milhem. She works primarily with garments, re-constructing dresses purchased in cities throughout Israel/Palestine. These works are embellished using the tradition of Palestinian embroidery, though Abu Milhem utilizes the stitching in a unique and contemporary way. The exhibition actively brings Palestinian art into the Israeli art establishment - a clear sociopolitical statement.
