19th Century Hair Collection (article from Hyperallergic)

Naturalist Peter A. Browne assembled the greatest hair collection in the mid-1800s, which was saved from the trash by a museum curator in the 1970s.

Browne accumulated as many specimens as he could, from famous figures and ordinary (either living or dead!). Wrapped with ribbons or string, each lock of hair is attached to paper with captions and a provenance. These albums of hair are currently in the archives of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. There is also a published book coming out on November 30th this year: Specimens of Hair: The Curious Collection of Peter A. Browne.
