Current Exhibitions at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles

Several new exhibitions have opened at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles this month, including the Excellence in Fibers exhibition (in collaboration with Fiber Art Now magazine) in the Turner and Gilliland galleries.

The late Bay Area artist, Miriam Nathan-Roberts, is commemorated in the Porcella gallery, featuring her illusions of 3D shapes on a 2D surface. Her later work includes striking digitally-printed images.

Seeing the Threshold features work by Jayoung Yoon in the Hallway gallery, who is a Korean-born, NY-based artist known for using human hair in her art. Connecting the viewer’s visual perception of the work to the physical form of the body, her 2-dimensional creations represent the limbo between conscious and unconscious states.

Mark Newport is celebrated in Suture and Stitch in the Finlayson gallery, exhibiting works that share a cerebral understanding of mending, cloth, textiles, and skin.

All exhibitions are on view through January 13, 2019. More information about SJMQT and the exhibitions can be found here.
