artist statement

My practice is driven by a love for mark-making, bold colors, and interesting texture. I make work reminiscent of abstract expressionism, with no area of a canvas left unexplored. Layers of material builds each piece’s composition through multiple strands of yarn, strips of felt, torn magazine pages, or pen strokes. My imagery is dense with detail, lending the impression that there is more than what the eye sees. The overall composition depends on where sections of color and texture interact with one another; in this way, each piece depends on context as a way for the viewer to navigate the imagery.
